Physical shape

Make sure you’re in good shape before setting out.

Don’t drive when you’re tired

Don’t take risks by starting out tired.
  • - Make sure you get a good night’s sleep the night before.
  • - Don’t start out after a hard day’s work.
  • - Take a nap (no more than 1h30).

Eat properly

Don’t start out on an empty stomach
  • - But avoid heavy meals (because the driving position slows down digestion).
  • - Take tea or coffee with the meal (but not in excess).
  • - Take a bottle of water with you.

Don’t drink alcohol or take drugs

Never drink alcohol or take drugs, before or during a journey.
Alcohol and drugs slow your reflexes and change your behaviour without your realizing.

After one drink, wait two hours before taking the wheel. It takes that long for your organism to clear the alcohol.

The law is clear: It is forbidden to drive with a blood alcohol level of 0.5 g per litre or more. For more information check out the site of La Prévention Routière, the French road safety organization.
