How to fight against falling asleep at the wheel (april 2008)

A message from motorways operators and from Prévention Routière to anyone who will drive over the next few days.

Over the last three years, Sleepiness At The Wheel has become the first cause of accidents on motorways, and the cause of one-in-three accidents overall.

You can’t fool fatigue: take a break! (spring/summer 2007)

French motorway companies, the French road safety association Prévention Routière and Total joined forces on a campaign to encourage motorists to stop and take a nap at the first signs of fatigue.

 

A total of 125,000 audio CDs were handed out during the spring holiday weekend to encourage motorists to take breaks during their journeys.

  • On departures for the spring holiday long weekend, French motorway companies working in partnership with Total and the French road safety association La Prévention Routière ran a repeat driver education campaign on fatigue at the wheel, the main cause of fatal accidents on the motorway.
  • At Total service stations throughout the French motorway network, the three partners handed out 125,000 audio CDs together with a special brochure.

Safety vest on the motorway (winter 2006)

 

During the winter of 2006, French motorway companies and the French road safety association La Prévention Routière ran a wide-reaching campaign to encourage motorists to wear safety vests whenever on foot in a motorway environment.

  • A total of 25,000 vests were handed out free of charge to people in need of assistance on the motorway network<ins cite="mailto:Bertrand%20Sciberras" datetime="2007-09-24T02:03">,</ins> but without a safety vest in their vehicles.
  • The campaign sought to develop use of the safety vest as a routine measure.
  • Procedure to follow in the event of a breakdown on the motorway
