Physical shape

Make sure you’re in good shape before setting out.

Don’t drive when you’re tired

  • Don’t take risks by starting out tired.
    • Make sure you get a good night’s sleep the night before.
    • Don’t start out after a hard day’s work.
    • Take a nap (no more than 1h30).

Eat properly

  • Don’t start out on an empty stomach
    • But avoid heavy meals (because the driving position slows down digestion).
    • Take tea or coffee with the meal (but not in excess).
    • Take a bottle of water with you.

Don’t drink alcohol or take drugs

  • Never drink alcohol or take drugs, before or during a journey.
  • Alcohol and drugs slow your reflexes and change your behaviour without your realizing.
  • After one drink, wait two hours before taking the wheel. It takes that long for your organism to clear the alcohol.
  • The law is clear: It is forbidden to drive with a blood alcohol level of 0.5 g per litre or more. For more information check out the site of La Prévention Routière, the French road safety organization.
